The test can be performed from seven weeks’ gestation. As it is a domestic test, the reporting time is up to 12 days. You can choose between a simple test that can be done at home and a test that is performed in the presence of the patient for legal proof. The accuracy of the genetic test is as high as 99.99%.

『Legal』 About DNA paternity testing during pregnancy

※『Legal』Pregnancy DNA testing requires the presence of our staff for blood sampling and oral cell collection.
※『Legal』Pregnancy DNA paternity tests will be contacted within 1-2 working days of payment confirmation to schedule the witnessing.
※『Legal』For DNA paternity testing during pregnancy, our staff will take oral mucosa samples from the test subjects ‘mother’ and ‘father’. For this reason, we have decided to carry out a new corona antibody test (or antigen test) in order to prevent further spread of infection. This will be at a cost (JPY 3,800 per person/tax not included).

Re-collection of blood due to insufficient amount of foetal DNA in maternal blood

※If the maternal blood sample submitted is found to be deficient in foetal-derived cell-free circulating DNA, the mother can be retested free of charge, provided that she submits an echocardiogram or a maternal and child health record from this pregnancy, which confirms the gestational week and singleton pregnancy, as specified by the company. For more information, please see informed consent.

When can a DNA paternity test be done during pregnancy?

The test is available from 7 weeks’ gestation in Japan

DNA paternity testing is carried out using maternal blood, so that the foetus can be DNA tested during pregnancy. Testing is possible from 7 weeks of pregnancy.
※The amount of foetal DNA in maternal blood varies from person to person. Fetal DNA levels may be insufficient even after 7 weeks’ gestation.

※Comparison table depends on own research, December 2021

Pregnancy DNA paternity test kit

The test sample used is foetus (baby) = maternal blood (30 mL) Father = oral mucosa cell collection using a swab. (In the case of private testing)
The maternal blood, which will be used as a DNA sample for the foetus (baby), will be collected at the hospital or elsewhere using the ‘blood collection tube’ enclosed in the kit.
The father’s oral cells are collected by rubbing the inner cheek using the ‘DNA-specific swab’ enclosed in the kit.
After the blood and swab collection is completed, simply return or bring the kit to us, which is very easy.

Please note that the design, specifications, appearance and price of the test kit are subject to change without notice.

What is DNA paternity testing during pregnancy?

State-of-the-art DNA paternity testing method based on genetic analysis technology for prenatal genetic diagnosis (NIPT), which tests for chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus

Trace amounts of DNA fragments are present in blood samples taken from pregnant women, including those of maternal as well as foetal origin. By analysing those DNA fragments, test whether the genetic information of the foetus contains DNA from the targeted father.
There is no risk to the mother or foetus as the test is only performed by drawing blood from the pregnant woman, as is the case with general blood collection tests.

FAQs – DNA paternity testing during pregnancy

Why can Hiro Clinic NIPT offer DNA testing at a lower price?
This is because they are tested, analysed and reported by a domestic DNA laboratory.
I think I am less than 7 weeks pregnant, can I have a test?
The presence of DNA of foetal origin has been confirmed from 7 weeks’ gestation in published papers and other sources. For this reason, we offer testing at 7 weeks’ gestation or more. However, as the amount of foetal DNA in maternal blood varies widely from person to person, the test may be repeated even after 7 weeks’ gestation. In general, the amount of foetal DNA increases with the length of pregnancy. For this reason, we recommend testing after 14 weeks if there is sufficient time to report and test.
What is the duration of the inspection and the reporting schedule?
The reporting time is around 9-14 days※. However, the testing period may be exceeded due to individual differences in foetal-derived DNA in maternal blood. We aim to provide accurate and prompt reports. Please note that the time required for testing is based on the number of working days. ※Converted in working days.
How to report
