How to Choose a Plan?
There are several NIPT tests available, but which one should I choose... The Minimum Plan seems to be more affordable for the cost of the test, but what do you think?
I know you are probably anxious about the NIPT test because it is not a test that is taken often. The Minimum Plan is an affordable plan that can test for Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) as well as Trisomy 18 and 13.

However, the Minimum Plan can only detect 48% of the possible positives according to the Hiro Clinic NIPT Data and Research. We recommend the over35 plan because this plan tests for trisomy of all chromosomes, which is more likely to occur, especially in pregnant women over the age of 35 years old.

Will we be able to find out the sex of the baby?
Gender/Sex identification is included in the Recommended Plan, Full Set Plan, over35 Plan, and Light Plan.
Some expecting mothers prefer not to know the gender of their baby, so we have made it selectable.
The Full Set Plan includes not only all Chromosomes 1 to 22, but also all autosomal partial deletions and duplications that cannot be detected by the over35 Plan or the Light Plan. his plan is perfect for people who want to use the opportunity to check for detailed abnormalities as well.

Can we take the new stand-alone chromosome tests?
If you are interested to test for only one chromosome, for example, Chromosome 21 (Down Syndrome) or if a relative has a specific chromosome abnormality and you want to know only about that you can take the stand-alone test.

The chart above shows the distribution of positive cases since June 2020. About a quarter of the positive cases tested at Hiro Clinic NIPT fall into the Autosomal Stand-alone Testing Plan(Chromosomes 1 to 22) that tests for Trisomy 21.
The Minimum Plan which tests for trisomy 21, 18, and 13, which are included in the NIPT Consortium testing, accounts for 48% of the total number of positive results. In addition to trisomy 21, 18, and 13, which can be tested in the over35 Plan and Full Set Plan, Autosomal trisomy/monosomy other than chromosomes 21,18 &13 accounts for 21% of the total number of positives. In particular, trisomy on all chromosomes is more likely to be detected in pregnant women over 35 years of age, and we recommend that these tests be performed in pregnant women over 35 years of age.
The All autosomal partial deletions and duplications, which is included in the Full Set Plan, account for 18% of the total number of positive cases, about the same as the number of positive cases for Trisomy 18.
The detection of All autosomal partial deletions and duplications is likely to involve more than 7 million base pairs, which includes about 140,000 base pairs of exon regions, which are likely to be moderately to severely disabling. In some cases, even a single base change in an exon region can cause disease.
It is important to carefully consider the cost and coverage of the test and choose a test plan that you are satisfied with.
