Causes of the disease<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>12q14 microdeletion syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the deletion of part of the long arm of chromosome 12 (12q14). This deletion affects genes involved in bone development and growth, and neurodevelopment, resulting in a wide range of symptoms. In many cases, it is caused by a de novo mutation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Symptoms\"><\/span>2. Symptoms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Growth retardation<\/strong>&nbsp;: A decrease in height may occur due to insufficient secretion of growth hormone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bone abnormalities<\/strong>&nbsp;: Decreased bone density and impaired bone development have been reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intellectual disability<\/strong>&nbsp;: Mild to moderate intellectual disability may occur.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Distinctive facial features<\/strong>&nbsp;: Distinctive facial features may be seen, but vary from person to person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Treatment\"><\/span>3. Treatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Growth Hormone Therapy<\/strong>&nbsp;: Growth hormone replacement therapy may be given as needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bone management<\/strong>&nbsp;: Nutritional guidance and appropriate exercise therapy are provided to maintain bone health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Developmental Support and Therapy<\/strong>&nbsp;: Developmental supports such as speech and occupational therapy are provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Prognosis\"><\/span>4. Prognosis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With appropriate treatment and support, growth and development can be expected to improve. Prognosis varies depending on individual symptoms, so regular medical management is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_The_burden_on_parents\"><\/span>5.
