Causes of the disease<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome type 1 is a congenital disease caused by a mutation in the PITX2 gene, which mainly affects eye development. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, and although it can be inherited from parents, mutations are also common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Symptoms\"><\/span>2. Symptoms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eye abnormalities<\/strong>&nbsp;: There is an increased risk of iris defects, corneal abnormalities and glaucoma.
