Features of NIPT at the Hiro Clinic collaborating clinics

The ‘positivity score’ is a number that measures how far away from the ‘cut-off value’ the boundary between positive and negative results is. The higher the number, the further away from the cut-off value.
By calculating this positive score, if a positive result is obtained, the probability of a truly positive result can be known to some extent before the amniotic fluid test is performed, and can be used as part of the decision on whether or not to perform an amniotic fluid test.

Cut-off values are reference values and are set for each of chromosomes 21, 18, 13 and full-domain partial deletion/duplication chromosomes.

Note: The testing healthcare provider will only receive negative or positive results if the test is performed by another laboratory as usual. GeneTech and Verinata Healthcare do not provide numerical data other than positive-negative results to medical institutions. Medical institutions cannot obtain information on the level of positivity even if they inquire. (As of January 2021, according to our own research).

Because the test is safe and secure in Japan, the results are notified in as little as three days, with the date of blood collection as day 0.

Hiro Clinic NIPT is the only facility in Japan※ that can investigate more than 54 types of partial deletions and duplications of whole autosomal regions, including “whole-autosomal partial duplication diseases”.

Please make a booking using the new NIPT booking button on the homepage. Once you have filled in the required information and completed your registration, My Page will be opened. From My Page, please sign the consent form and read the NIPT test instructions.

Phone reception

After opening My Page, the NIPT Call Centre will call the examinee. The examinee chooses the telemedicine date, blood collection date and blood collection medical institution of his/her choice and makes a provisional appointment.

Web-based payment

You will be asked to make your card payment online. Once payment has been made, your appointment is confirmed and the telemedicine date, blood collection date and blood collection medical centre will be confirmed.

Doctor-assisted remote treatment

Remote medical care is provided by a NIPT doctor from Hiro Clinic. The doctor can provide a thorough explanation of the test and counselling before taking blood samples, so you can take the test with peace of mind. It is possible to change the plan after the consultation with the doctor.

Drawing blood

The blood sample is taken at a partner medical institution near your residence. The shorter travel distance reduces the burden on the pregnant woman’s body. 95% of test results are confirmed within 8 days of the blood collection (※Except for some plans).

Counselling

If you wish, an enrolled doctor will examine you and provide genetic counselling. Genetic counselling can also relieve anxiety. ※An optional fee is required.

Like the Hiro Clinic, there is no age limit for the NIPT test, as the clinic is affiliated with the Hiro Clinic. Anyone whose pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound can take the test, but it is recommended to take the test before 14 weeks if you plan to have an amniotic fluid test in case of a positive result. Pregnant twins are also eligible for this test. Please consult us if you have vanishing twin syndrome (vanishing twin). However, the test may not be accurate in the following cases If you have trisomy, monosomy, etc. If the mother has a genetic abnormality If the foetus is triploid or tetraploid If you have received stem cell therapy If you have received immunotherapy If you have received an organ transplant If you have had a blood transfusion in the past 12 months
