At Hiro Clinic, we offer not only prenatal parentage testing but also postnatal DNA parentage testing.
Postnatal Parentage Testing
Postnatal parentage testing is a DNA test conducted after the child is born to confirm whether there is a genetic parent-child relationship between the father and the child. Utilizing scientific methods, parentage testing offers highly accurate verification of parent-child relationships, making it widely used for legal proceedings and personal peace of mind.
How Postnatal Parentage Testing Works
DNA parentage testing is based on the genetic principle that a child inherits half of their genes from each parent. The test typically analyzes specific regions of DNA known as short tandem repeats (STRs) and compares the DNA profiles of the potential father and the child to determine parentage.
Process of Parentage Testing
- Sample Collection:
DNA samples are collected from the potential father and the child. This process is simple and non-invasive, typically involving the use of a cotton swab to gently collect cells from the inside of the cheek. The method is painless and safe. - DNA Analysis:
The collected samples are sent to a testing facility where DNA analysis is conducted. The STR (short tandem repeat) regions of the DNA are examined to determine the level of genetic similarity between the potential father and the child. - Parentage Determination:
The analysis results confirm whether 50% of the child’s DNA matches that of the potential father. If a parent-child relationship exists, the accuracy of the determination exceeds 99.99%.
Reasons for Conducting Parentage Testing
- Legal Procedures:
Parentage testing is often used as legal evidence to prove a parent-child relationship. It is particularly effective in cases involving divorce, inheritance disputes, or child support issues where clarity on parentage is required. - Family Reassurance:
When doubts about parentage arise within a family, scientifically confirming the relationship can provide peace of mind and resolve uncertainties. - Verification of Inheritance and Rights:
Parentage testing may be necessary to confirm whether a child has legitimate inheritance rights or other legal entitlements.
Accuracy of Parentage Testing
DNA parentage testing is highly accurate, confirming a parent-child relationship with a probability of 99.99% or higher. In cases where no parent-child relationship exists, the test can exclude the possibility with over 99% certainty. This level of precision ensures that the results are widely recognized as reliable evidence in legal contexts.
Privacy and Security
DNA samples collected and test results obtained during the testing process are managed under strict privacy protection protocols. The results are never disclosed to third parties, ensuring that legal proceedings or personal purposes can be handled securely and confidentially.
Advantages of Postnatal Paternity Testing
- Simple and Non-Invasive: The test involves collecting cells from the inside of the cheek, a straightforward and stress-free method, even for children.
- Fast Results: Results are typically available within a few days to a week, allowing for quick confirmation of parent-child relationships.
- High Reliability: Results based on DNA analysis are scientifically and legally reliable, providing strong evidence for parentage.
DNA Postnatal Paternity Testing (Legal)
At Hiro Clinic, we offer not only prenatal paternity testing but also postnatal paternity testing.
For cases requiring submission to a court or other legal authorities, we provide legal paternity testing, which is more suitable for such purposes.
We generally recommend legal paternity testing, as it provides documentation that is officially recognized and holds greater value in legal proceedings.
Process of Legal DNA Testing
Please contact Hiro Clinic by phone or make a purchase through GenerioStore.
After visiting Hiro Clinic, DNA is collected from the buccal mucosa (cheek cells). Prior to collection, identity verification and video recording of the sampling process are conducted. The DNA collection is performed under the supervision of a physician.
The sample, along with the consent form, is sent to the Tokyo Hygiene Laboratory.
The results will be sent via email. Subsequently, a paper certificate with the doctor’s handwritten signature will be provided.
For postnatal parentage testing, blood sampling is typically not required. A sample collection kit will be sent to your home. For private testing, simply collect the sample from the cheek mucosa, return it to us, and the results will be emailed to you in approximately 5.5 days.
