What Is a Prenatal DNA Paternity Test?
A prenatal DNA paternity test is a procedure that determines the biological relationship between a fetus and its parents during pregnancy. By collecting DNA from the mother’s blood and buccal cells (from the inside of the cheek), as well as buccal cells from the presumed father, the test analyzes SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) information to establish a genetic relationship with the fetus.
This method is safe and non-invasive, and testing can be performed from as early as the 6th week of pregnancy, making it a reassuring option for those who wish to confirm paternity early and with confidence.
Uncertainty about paternity can cause significant stress, and waiting until after birth for a DNA test may prolong anxiety. Knowing the father’s identity beforehand can help clarify relationships before childbirth and also allows for legal procedures to be handled in advance, if necessary.
- Those who want to confirm the biological father of the baby
- Those who wish to verify paternity before birth
- Those who want to avoid any risk to the fetus or the mother
- Those seeking peace of mind during pregnancy
- Those who need legal confirmation of paternity
- Those who require fast and accurate results

Hiro Clinic’s test uses cutting-edge technology, specifically the MiSeq FGx System developed by Illumina, a next-generation sequencer. Hiro Clinic is the first in Japan to adopt this fully automated system for prenatal DNA paternity testing. By automating the process, labor costs are reduced, allowing for lower pricing without compromising accuracy or speed.
From sample collection to testing, a barcode-based, fully automated system is used to minimize the risk of sample mix-ups or loss, ensuring highly accurate results. Moreover, all samples collected at Hiro Clinic are sent directly from the medical facility to the testing laboratory, further enhancing the reliability of the process.
With strict hygiene management and test stability maintained under medical supervision, Hiro Clinic delivers highly trustworthy results. If you are seeking a fast, accurate, and affordable prenatal DNA paternity test, Hiro Clinic’s NIPPT is the ideal choice.

Benefits of Prenatal DNA Paternity Testing
Prenatal DNA paternity testing is a crucial tool that allows expectant parents to confirm the biological relationship between the fetus and the presumed father during pregnancy. By resolving uncertainties early, this test can significantly reduce emotional stress and provide psychological relief for pregnant women who have concerns about paternity. Knowing the paternity relationship in advance allows families to establish a cooperative environment and prepare for early support, thus broadening the options for parenting and future planning.
One of the key advantages of this test is that it provides peace of mind during pregnancy, allowing the mother to approach childbirth with a calm and stable mindset. The mental reassurance also has a positive effect on the mother’s health, reducing stress and contributing to overall well-being.
This test analyzes trace amounts of DNA fragments found in the maternal blood sample, which contains both maternal and fetal DNA. The test specifically checks for the presence of paternal DNA in the fetal genetic material, making it possible to confirm the father’s genetic contribution to the fetus.
The testing method involves a simple blood draw from the mother and buccal cells (cheek swabs) from both parents, ensuring that the procedure is non-invasive and poses minimal risk to both the mother and fetus. This high level of safety means there is no concern about any adverse effects on fetal development.
Additionally, prenatal DNA paternity testing can be used as a legally recognized test, which is admissible in court as evidence. This makes it ideal for situations requiring legal confirmation, providing reliable and trustworthy results. The test is not only fast but also allows for private, confidential testing if needed.

Gene Testing Expert: Tokyo Hygiene Laboratory Conducts the Tests
The Tokyo Hygiene Laboratory, in partnership with Hiro Clinic, received CAP (College of American Pathologists) certification in January 2024.
CAP is a third-party certification body initiated by the American Pathologists’ Association. It verifies the integrity, robustness, and validity of testing procedures, and certification is only granted to institutions that have passed rigorous third-party evaluations.
This certification is updated every two years. During the review process, CAP inspectors from around the world visit the laboratory to ensure that testing is conducted according to CAP standards. The investigation includes checking whether equipment and personnel management are properly maintained, whether errors are documented and corrected appropriately, and whether proper corrective actions are taken.
The renewal of this certification requires the oversight of a Lab Director who has previously managed operations at a CAP-certified facility, and regular audits are conducted.
Additionally, a distinctive feature of CAP compared to ISO certification is its biannual audits. During these audits, the CAP management body sends actual test samples to various facilities to ensure consistency across the CAP-certified laboratories.
