Getting NIPT in Okayama: How Hiro Clinic Differs from Certified Facilities
If you are considering NIPT in Okayama, it helps to understand the difference between certified and non-certified facilities before choosing where to test. Hiro Clinic NIPT Okayama Station is a non-certified facility. Comparing five points — testing scope, age requirements, referral letters, result speed, and cost — can help you find the option that suits you.
Certified Facilities vs. Hiro Clinic (Non-Certified Facility): Comparison Table
The main differences come down to testing flexibility and ease of access. The table below summarizes how to choose in Okayama.
| Comparison | Certified Facilities | Hiro Clinic NIPT Okayama Station (Non-Certified Facility) |
|---|---|---|
| Testing scope | Mainly the three trisomies (21, 18, 13). Sex chromosomes not covered. | The three basic conditions plus all chromosomes, microdeletions/duplications (up to 143 types), and sex chromosomes. |
| Age requirements | Often limited to mothers aged 35 or older at delivery. | No age restrictions. Open to all pregnant women. |
| Referral letter | Usually requires a referral from your primary OB/GYN. | No referral needed. Testing is available once a fetal heartbeat is confirmed. |
| Result speed | Typically 1–2 weeks due to overseas shipping. | In partnership with a domestic testing institution (Tokyo Health Inspection Center), results in ~5 days on average (as fast as 2). |
| Cost | Varies by facility. | Plans starting in the ¥60,000 range for the three basic conditions, up to full-coverage plans. |
| How to test | Generally requires an in-person visit. | In-person visits, plus an at-home option (“Ouchi NIPT”) that can be completed without visiting the clinic. |
No Difference in Testing Accuracy
There is no difference in testing accuracy between certified and non-certified facilities. Some patients worry that accuracy may be lower at a non-certified facility, but there is no need for concern.
Most certified facilities in Japan use Illumina’s VeriSeq NIPT Solution V2. Hiro Clinic was the first in Japan to introduce this same system and performs testing to the same standard.
About the Testing Institution: Tokyo Health Inspection Center
NIPT testing at Okayama Station Clinic is carried out in partnership with a domestic testing institution. The testing itself is handled by the Tokyo Health Inspection Center.
The Tokyo Health Inspection Center is a testing institution that was accredited as a certified NIPT facility from 2022 to 2024. Because we work in partnership with this domestic testing institution, we can deliver results in about 5 days on average, as fast as 2 days. Shortening the anxious wait for results is one reason many patients in Okayama choose us.
